Toscana IGP “Tignanello”
Toscana IGP “Tignanello”
Tenuta Tignanello, Tuscany, Italy
2018 2016
Sangiovese (80%)Cabernet Sauvignon (13%)Cabernet Franc (7%)
“Still a little bit reserved in the glass, but attractive perfume on the nose. Freshly cut violets and ripe blackberry emerge first, followed by elegant aromas of orange peel, forest floor and heady dark fruit and moss. Powerful and deep, with faint notes of wild herb. Stunning wine with many years ahead of it.”

Toscana IGP “Arteliquida”
Toscana IGP “Arteliquida”
Azienda Agricola Montechiaro di Alessandro Griccioli, Tuscany, Italy
2016
Malvasia Nera (100%)
“Delicious fragrance of cut flowers and fresh, ripe cherry. This boasts a complex nose that delivers notes of orange peel and citrus as well as helpings of berry fruit. In the mouth it’s dry, but light and energetic. Bio-dynamically farmed, low production and well worth a go, if only for the rare example of mono varietal Tuscan Malvasia Nera.”
90 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Turpino”
Toscana IGP “Turpino”
Querciabella, Tuscany, Italy
2015
“Turpino 2015 is an outstanding wine; the nose oozes with deep berry fruit - black cherry and prune are freshened up with raspberry jam. There is a gentle spice that lingers alongside the faint touch of tobacco. Medium bodied, its smooth texture is lifted by elegant, but youthful tannin. Still early days for this wine but there is fabulous balance, harmony and style. Excited to see how this evolves. Delicious finish of blackberry and clove.”
93 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Selvabianco”
Toscana IGP “Selvabianco”
Cantina La Selva, Tuscany, Italy
2019
“Fairly simple white; well balanced with green apple and orchard fruit notes on the nose. Light palate with some tangy citrus notes. Reasonably fresh with a moderate finish.”
85 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Calasera”
Toscana IGP “Calasera”
Tenuta Moraia, Tuscany, Italy
2016
Vermentino (100%)
“Grassy notes dominate the nose with some subtle notes of peach and honey. The plate is oily and textured with modest acidity, characterised by gentle tree fruit and citrus flavours. There is a slight touch of almond on the finish, but it’s pleasant enough. A good value, easy drinking Tuscan white.”

Toscana IGP “Privo”
Cantina La Selva, Tuscany, Italy

AlicanteSangiovese
“A juicy nose of plum fruit is met with earthy notes of moss, forest floor and mushroom. A rustic palate of vibrant cherry, pushy acidiy and velvetty tannin set up a pleasant red fruit finish. No sulphites.”

2016
Malvasia Bianca LungaTrebbiano ToscanoViognier
“Charming low production summer wine. Only around 12,000 bottles produced, it gives fresh and fragrant notes of cut grass, ripe lemon and subtle hints of white peach. A light and fruity palate is complimented by gentle acidity and a solid length on the finish.”

Toscana IGP “Fontalloro”
Toscana IGP “Fontalloro”
Fèlsina, Tuscany, Italy
2018 2017 2016 2009
Sangiovese (100%)
“Intriguing, evolved, polished aromas. Prune, date, earth and ash. Some subtle notes of thyme and lavender. Chocolate and hazelnut. 13 years from the vintages it still shows a firm tannic grip. Still lots of life ahead of it, but complex flavours and a classy, elegant finish.”
95 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Le Pergole Torte”
Toscana IGP “Le Pergole Torte”
Fattoria Montevertine, Tuscany, Italy
2017 2016 2013
Sangiovese (100%)
“Seductive aromas of violets, mint, morello cherry, evolve majestically into darker forest fruit notes. There is blueberry, lavender and leather, plum and faint clove. The palate is dense, textured, layered. Wild berry, earth and graphite spill out from an austere, powerful and chiseled structure. Energetic and breezy, it finishes with a long, distinguished presence of berry fruit and rural charm.”
97 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Scipio” Cabernet Franc
Toscana IGP “Scipio” Cabernet Franc
Tenuta Sette Cieli, Tuscany, Italy
2016
Cabernet Franc (100%)
“The palate is rich and concentrated, loaded with brooding dark fruit. Tasted young, there is little evidence of the classic Cabernet Franc aroma profile, but there is more than enough juicy blackcurrent and ripe plum to seduce. Occasional suggestions of vanilla come through and with time the complexity of earth, underbush and damson compote evolve and intensify. This is a special wine, but not for the faint hearted. Warm alcohol provides a bit of a kick on the finish, but the depth of this wine seems endless. Very impressive, but needs plenty of time to show its best self. One for the cellar.”
93 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP Pinot Nero
Toscana IGP Pinot Nero
Tenuta Montauto, Tuscany, Italy
2019 2018
Pinot Nero (100%)
“Fragrant, lifted red fruit on the nose with delicate notes of sweet spice and balsam. Impressively subtle and inviting. Ripe varietal character, strawberry in particular, with supple tannin. Graced by balanced acidity, mineral complexity and fresh berry notes. Fun, but stylish and precise. Very impressive.”
91 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “Silio” Ciliegiolo
Toscana IGP “Silio” Ciliegiolo
Tenuta Montauto, Tuscany, Italy
2019
Ciliegiolo (100%)
“A delicious expression of Ciliegiolo produced, like so many of Riccardo Lepri’s wines, in an elegant and authentic style. Violets and fresh berry lead the aromas, alongside faint scents of tobacco and earth. In the mouth it is balanced and elegant, driven by morello cherry, attractive red fruit and and delicate sweet spice. A full bodied yet impressively nimble wine.”
90 Paul Caputo
Toscana IGP “La Gioia”
Toscana IGP “La Gioia”
Riecine, Tuscany, Italy
2017
Sangiovese (100%)
“100% Sangiovese. A very ripe nose of concentrated berry fruit and plum jostles with outpourings of violet and sweet spice. Then come gentle waves of chocolate and cocoa. Despite its full bodied stature this is fresh and energetic, lifted by confident acidity and mineral complexity. A very well made wine that finishes with typical varietal tension, notes of raspberry, cherry and mushroom.”

Toscana IGP “Oreno”
Toscana IGP “Oreno”
Tenuta Sette Ponti, Tuscany, Italy
2020 2018
Merlot (50%)Cabernet Sauvignon (40%)Petit Verdot (10%)
“Beautifully seductive aromas of ripe damson, blackberry, blueberry compote and dark chocolate. With a little time, fine savoury nuances emerge, with a refined and subtle lavender and black olive character. The palate is rich, bursting with fresh dark berry fruit. Concentrated, but incredibly silky and polished. Fine wine with incredible length and density. It finishes with a beautiful cushion of forest fruit, sweet spice and cedar wood. Incredible wine with many years ahead of it.”

Toscana IGP “Mongrana”
Toscana IGP “Mongrana”
Querciabella, Tuscany, Italy
2017 2016
Sangiovese (50%)Cabernet Sauvignon (25%)Merlot (25%)
“Vibrant red with a delightful perfumed nose. Aromas of violets merge with juicy fruit notes of black cherry, plum and blackberry, while a light touch of vanilla adds some depth. On the palate juicy black fruit and moderate acidity lap against a polished structure of ripe tannin. Really good wine that finishes with attractive floral character.”
