Maremma Toscana DOC

The Maremma area was upgraded from IGT to DOC in 2011 in recognition of the area’s inherent typicity. The area is primarily known for its reds from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, although there are a number of white wines produced from Trebbiano Toscano and Vermentino.

Maremma Toscana DOC “Enos I” Sauvignon Blanc
Maremma Toscana DOC “Enos I” Sauvignon Blanc
Tenuta Montauto, Tuscany, Italy
2018
Sauvignon Blanc (100%)
“An intense nose of citrus, particularly lime and grapefruit, collides with a delicate sweet and spicy scent with undertones of bay leaves and tomato leaf. This integrated herbal character brings intriguing complexity. In the mouth the wine continues its intense fruit character, providing a strong backbone of green citrus before finishing with a beautiful dry finesse. An excellent expression of Sauvignon worthy of attention.”

Maremma Toscana DOC “Mersino” Vermentino
Maremma Toscana DOC “Mersino” Vermentino
Valdonica, Tuscany, Italy
2019 2018
Vermentino (100%)
“Very elegant and polished Vermentino. The nose reveals lime, sage, zesty lemon peel and a slight saltiness. The palate leans towards apricot and peach, but is kept fresh by lively acidity. Well balanced with an impressive finish of stone fruit.”

Maremma Toscana DOC “Arnaio”
Maremma Toscana DOC “Arnaio”
Valdonica, Tuscany, Italy
2018
Sangiovese (80%)Ciliegiolo (20%)
“Fragrant nose that wraps fresh cherries in aromas of thyme and fennel. There’s an attractive stalky note complimenting gentle tobacco. The palate is light and soft, but not without the rustic country grip typical of Sangiovese. Moderate tannin, fresh red fruit and a dry, modest finish. Good lunch time wine.”

Maremma Toscana DOC “Monte Calvo” Ciliegiolo
Maremma Toscana DOC “Monte Calvo” Ciliegiolo
Sassotondo, Tuscany, Italy
2018
Ciliegiolo (100%)
“Energetic but seductive expression of Ciliegiolo. Attractive notes of raspberry and cranberry offer delicate fragrance to the denser flavours of blackberry and morello cherry that linger on the nose. Structured yet elegant, the palate shows racy red fruit, beautiful floral inflections and the authentic vibrancy associated with volcanic soils. Unassuming but brilliant.”

Maremma Toscana DOC “San Lorenzo”
Maremma Toscana DOC “San Lorenzo”
Sassotondo, Tuscany, Italy
2015 2013
Ciliegiolo (100%)
“Luscious berry fruit on the nose. Extremely complex. Deep, brooding notes of cherry, forest floor, bell pepper and damson. Despite eight years of age to it this is incredibly fresh. Some sweet spice unfurls with time. Vibrant, energetic. Dry, tannic finish.”

Maremma Toscana DOC “Gessaia” Sauvignon Blanc
Maremma Toscana DOC “Gessaia” Sauvignon Blanc
Tenuta Montauto, Tuscany, Italy
2020 2019
Sauvignon Blanc (100%)
“Attractive notes of melon, lime and nettle on the nose. Ripe fruit, but classy and elegant and given complexity by a backdrop of smoke and spice. Excellent balance, harmony and composure. Subtle citrus notes linger on the palate, backed up by floral scents. Soft, round texture. Very good expression of Tuscan Sauvignon. A sapid, mineral character on the finish.”
