Placeholder Red Grape

Samsó

Samsó is a red grape variety grown in northern Spain. Grown predominantly in Montsant, in the region of Catalonia is has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years as the trend toward reviving old vineyard has revealed some outstanding plots capable of making excellent wines. The grape is more commonly known as Carignan. Samsó is also used as a synonym for Cinsault although this can create unnecessary confusion.

Synonyms: Bovale Grande, Carignan Noir, Carignano, Cariñena, Carinyena, Mazuelo

“A modern blend of Garnacha Negra, Carinena, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is rich, bold and hedonistic. With 10 months in barrique it delivers confident notes of sweet vanilla but maintains balance and harmony. This is undoubtedly one of the great wines of Montsant.”
89 Paul Caputo
