Created in 1980, the Bairrada DO has seen steady improvement over the last few decades and is now home to rich and fruity wines from local grape varieties such as Baga and Castelao. Here, a mild climate, tempered by the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean, has proven conducive to producing ripe, approachable wines.
