Alois

Campania, Italy

Via Ragazzano, Audelino, Provincia di Caserta, Italia, 81040

Alois is a boutique producer based in Pontelatone in the Caserta province of Campania. The estate is best known for producing wines from grape varieties local to the volcanic soils of the area. The white Pallagrello Bianco is widely regarded amongst Italian wine enthusiasts, and there is growing excitement around the red Casavecchia grape from the little known DOC territory of Casavecchia di Pontelatone.

Pallagrello Bianco (100%)
“Straw yellow in colour, the Alois Pallagrello Bianco is a refined, polished wine. At times quite neutral on the nose, but a gentle floral characteristic lingers alongside faint brioche and vanilla, obtained from partial maturation in oak. The palate is rounded, almost creamy, exuding faint notes of banana and peach. Some mandarin in there too. With time in the glass these aromas become more expressive. There is a notable sense of alcohol on the finish. An interesting wine from a potentially very interesting grape variety.”

Casavecchia (100%)
“This is very exciting for fans of volcanic terroir influenced wines. A lively nose of fresh cherry and violets with some nuanced raspberry and orange peel. Mineral overtones. A very vibrant palate loaded with tart but concentrated forest fruits and prominent acidity sets this up for plenty of years to come. Intriguing wine from an unusual grape variety. Finished with an attractive note of sour cherry.”

Pallagrello Bianco (100%)
“White flowers and peach. Lots of floral and herbal complexity on the nose from scented blossom to wild fennel. Subtle notes of hazelnut juxtapose juicy citrus. The palate is well integrated, showing both depth and freshness. Impressive wine. Very polished. Excited to follow its development.”
